Cookie-less analytics: what we track and what we don't
You get views, clicks, referrers, countries and devices. Your visitors get no cookie banner. Here is how that works.
By The LinkOut team
Analytics on a link page should answer two questions: how many people came, and what did they tap. It should not require a consent banner that covers half the screen on a phone.
What we track
- Page views and unique visitors.
- Clicks on links, blocks, social icons and the badge.
- Conversions: email signups, RSVPs and, on Pro, bookings and sales.
- Referrer, UTM parameters, country, region, city, device type, operating system and browser.
What we do not track
- No cookies. Nothing is stored in the visitor's browser.
- No raw IP addresses. We hash the IP with a secret that rotates every day, so yesterday's visitor cannot be matched with today's.
- No cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting, no advertising identifiers.
- No bots. Known crawlers are filtered out before they touch your numbers.
How unique visitors work
When your page loads, we compute a short hash from a daily secret, the request's network address and browser string. Two visits from the same person on the same day share a hash; tomorrow they get a new one. It is enough to count uniques honestly and not enough to build a profile.
Your own pixels
Pro accounts can add Meta, TikTok and Google pixels to their page. Those set cookies under the pixel provider's rules, so if you add them, the consent question becomes yours. Our own analytics never do.
